Art Weekend, Moscow
This weekend, Moscow’s Design Centre (Центр дизайна), Artplay, is hosting Art Weekend, a market for all lovers of unique handmade gifts and crafts. With over 200 sellers, the autumn Art Weekend promises to be the place to buy one-of-a-kind souvenirs and Christmas gifts. The market has already enjoyed great success in the Russian capital with previous events taking place as recently as August 2016, and I’m really excited about having the chance to see what Russia’s creators have in store for us this weekend. Stalls selling everything from Christmas decorations to jewellery and from bespoke bags and clothes to homewares will fill the Design Centre on the 26th and 27th of November, and their line-up also boasts makers from beyond Russia; traditional Georgian and Armenian crafts promise to make an appearance.
The event prides itself on being the home of unusual things, so if you want to bring loved ones something really special or you want to take home a reminder of Moscow that cannot be found in the tourist souvenir shops, then Art Weekend is the place to go and you’ll see me there for sure. Any crafters out there must also make their way to the market, as many sellers specialise in craft materials and DIY kits and you may even have the opportunity to learn a new skill in a demo workshop. And don’t worry about keeping refreshed whilst you trawl the stalls; a food zone will provide all you need to be recharged.
Don’t forget to bring cash, as it is possible that some sellers will not be able to take card payments. Entrance is free of charge, and the centre is just a short walk from Kurskaya or Chkalovskaya metro stations. See you there!
Art Weekend will take place at Design Centre Artplay, Ulitsa Nizhnyaya Syromyatnicheskaya, 10/7 (Центр дизайна Artplay, Ул Нижняя Сыромятническая, дом 10, Строение 7), Metro Kurskaya or Chkalovskaya (Курская/Чкаловская). Saturday 26th November – Sunday 27th November, 12:00-20:00. http://www.art-weekend.ru
