III International Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg
This weekend, from 7th to 9th December 2014, St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum will take place in more than 30 venues through the city of St. Petersburg, including Mariinskij theatre, Alexandrinskij theatre, Sheremetev Palace and Mikhailovsky Castle . Organized by Russian government in active collaboration with St. Petersburg city authorities, the forum will be devoted to the discussion of problems and trends of the current cultural life. In particular, this year forum will be dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Hermitage and will open exactly on the birthday of the great Museum – December 7th. For this particular occasion, The UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova will participate and a beautiful light show with music will take place at the Palace Square.
In accordance to the forum’s aim to both preserve and develop Russian culture, supporting cultural initiatives and promoting international cooperation in the area of culture, this year forum will offer a great opportunity for experts and professionals from all over the world to meet together and discuss problems and trends of the current cultural life. In this sense representatives of cultural institutions and organizations, executives of leading theaters, museums, conservatories have confirmed their participation in the forum as well as 20 ministers of culture in foreign countries.
During three days, the Forum will present various events in various formats, such as panel discussions, seminars, plenary meetings featuring government officials, regional Ministers of Culture and heads of the Departments of Culture.
The forum will host 16 workshops: “Cultural policy”, “Theatre”, “Music”, “Museums and Local History”, “Language and Literature”, “Libraries”, “Cinema”, “Circus”, “Traditional culture and popular art”, “Choreography”, “Fine Art”, including 5 new sections: “Science and Education within the Culture”, “Philosophy of Culture”, “Preservation and promotion of historical and cultural monuments”, “Culture for urbans” and “Media culture”.
As well reflected in the Forum’s motto “People. Culture. World”, high rate delegations from Europe, China and other countries prove that art can still unite peoples and stays out of politics.
