I am from Austria ?
06 September 2017

Hello! Привет!

My name is Philipp and I’m 23 years old. This is my first post for Liden & Denz as an intern. Over the next ten weeks I’ll be giving you an inside account into my life in St Petersburg and how my language skills evolve.

In Austria I’m in the 3rd year of my BA studies in the field of international business relations. I’m currently in the 5th semester so after my stay here I have a semester left to complete my BA. I chose the Russian language because it has a big impact on the European Economy and it fits perfectly with my studies.

I was born in the capital of Austria, Vienna. But now I’m living about 30 minutes south of it by car. The region I life in is known for sweet wine and hot springs. It’s the best place to stay if you’re planning a longer trip to Vienna and it’s surroundings.

My stay here in Sankt Petersburg isn’t my first trip to Russia. I was in Moscow this summer for 4 weeks. I stayed at the university halls of the МГРУ. I really enjoyed the stay there. I got to know a lot of the culture and learned that a lot of stereotypes about the Russians are wrong. They are really nice and kind when you get to know them.

My stay in Saint Petersburg, I hope, will continue to show of the beautiful sides of the Russian culture. I also hope that I will improve my Russian skills. I’m looking forward to a great stay here in Sankt Petersburg; getting to know some new and interesting people, improving my language skills, learning a lot about Russian culture and enjoying the city.

I prepared myself for this trip with some Russian TV shows and carefully packing for the different weather. It’s the start of September and at night it’s getting really cold, or at least I think so. As far as I can tell Moscow was a huge city, very noisy and looked typically Russian, whilst on the other hand Saint Petersburg is very European. At night it really looks like Venice.

I’m keen on learning the Russian language and getting to know the city.

Finally, I want to share with you my favorite quote that continues to remind me to always give my best.

“Pain is transient, Pride remains forever”

So stay tuned and see you soon
