Travel Russia: Study Russian In Irkutsk, Siberia!

Irkutsk is 5000 km east of Moscow – a six hour flight from the Russian capital. By contrast, Irkutsk-Beijing will take less than 3 hours. Originally founded in the 17th century as a Cossack fortress, Irkutsk came to prominence under the influence of exiled rebels who led an uprising in 1825 against Tsar Nikolai I. The rebellion was crushed and many of its aristocratic leaders were sent to Irkutsk in Siberia. Today about 600.000 people live in this attractive Eastern Siberian metropolis.

Irkutsk is a popular stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway and most travellers take the opportunity to spend a few days or weeks here on the long trip to the Pacific or to China. Lake Baikal – the must-see tourist attraction in this region – is less than an hour drive from the city. The deepest and oldest freshwater lake in the world, and a UNESCO world heritage site, Lake Baikal is 700 km long and covers an area larger than Belgium. That’s a lot of water!

Our Irkutsk campus is located in the historical city centre in a characterful 19th century building, currently being refurbished to our design.

Group courses will run for a minimum of two weeks (individual courses minimum one week).  Accommodation options include Siberian host-families, shared flats, studios and hotels of all categories. An authentic and exciting activities programme will be offered to all our students in Irkutsk.
