The Restaurant Day

The Restaurant Day
14 May 2015

Have you ever dreamed of opening you own restaurant? Or do you just love to eat and try new stuff? Either way, this Saturday (16th of May) you are in for a treat. On Saturday the so called Restaurant Day will take place around the world, and of course Saint Petersburg will take part.

The special thing about the Restaurant Day is that anyone can take part, both as a customer but also as a restaurant owner. Yes, you heard that right. You can open your own restaurant for one day!

The Restaurant Day originally comes from Finland, were you also will find the most restaurants on Saturday. The concept, as all good ideas, eventually spread internationally and the day has, as of today, been organized in more than 60 countries worldwide. The day is organized four times a year, once for every season. The previous day, in February, saw a total of 1375 pop-up restaurants in more than 30 countries.

The idea is that anyone can start their own pop-up restaurant for this one particular day. What you serve, and where is totally up to you and your imagination. Someone might serve homemade pastries from the trunk of their car whilst someone else might cook up a 7-course tasting menu in a courtyard. Creativity is the key!

More general info on the day can be found on the website. A nice interactive map of all open restaurants in Saint Petersburg and the world can be found here. If you are on vkontakte, there’s an event-page there as well.
