До свидания Claire!

До свидания Claire!
28 August 2017

It is sadly time to say goodbye to another one of our interns. Claire from the UK is on her way back home, but before she left, we talked about her time in Russia, working and studying at Liden & Denz.

Tell me a bit about yourself.

My name is Claire and I’m 21 years old. I’m from the UK and I study German and Russian at University. I’m about to start my final year.

Why did you come to Russia and what inspired you to study Russian in the first place?

Well, I came to Russia last February, as part of my year abroad. I studied in Yaroslavl for three and a half months and I didn’t want to leave Russia over the summer because I knew that I would forget everything. I’ve decided to come to Liden & Denz because I love St. Petersburg and I wanted to spend more time here.  I’ve decided to study Russian in the first place because I wanted to study German at University and I had to pick another language to do alongside German, so I thought why not try Russian. I had always been fascinated by Russian culture, just how different it is. Also, it was the best time to start learning a new language and learn about the culture. And I am happy that I gave it a go!

Are you happy with your experience of learning Russian and working in St. Petersburg? Why?

I am really happy. It’s been a lot of fun. The teachers have been really great, I’ve met some lovely people and I have really loved it. I am honestly so sad that I have to leave on Sunday. I think the teaching at Liden & Denz is really great and I enjoyed the internship as well. It’s been very interesting and it is so nice meeting people who you have goals in common with. You all want to learn Russian and you’re all interested in Russian culture and I feel this gives you a really good premise to make friends with people.

Do you have any recommendations for future interns?

Definitely go for it. It’s a good thing to do. It’s a really good package because you get to learn more about Russian culture while learning Russian. I would say that you should say yes to anything that comes your way. You never know what you will get from it.

What is your favourite experience in St. Petersburg?

I have quite a few favourite experiences. One of my favourites was definitely the boat party. It was such a lovely evening. The weather was nice and it was just so much fun to hang out with the other interns.

Would you come back?

Absolutely! I would love to come back at some point.

Also, I would like to thank all the teachers for being so patient with me. I honestly feel that I’ve learned so much. I also want to thank Liza, my supervisor, she’s been so friendly and helpful, and of course, also my fellow interns. Honestly, it’s been lovely to meet people who have been so welcoming and working with you has been so much fun!
