Aleksandrovsky Park and Mini Saint Petersburg

Russian nature is definitely amazing and worth seeing but not always during our stay we have time to go outside the cities and enjoy its beauty. However, when in Saint Petersburg and Moscow we can at least take advantage of the many parks and gardens of the cities. In fact one of the things that astonishes most tourists is how beautiful, tidy and well-groomed are public gardens in Russia.

Parks in Saint Petersburg

In Saint Petersburg the majority of parks is located in the north of the city. So while we are waiting for the opening of Летний and Михайловский сады (Letniy and Mikhailovsky sady) on May 1, temporary closed for maintenance works, we can enjoy other public parks of the city. One that is really worth seeing is Александровский парк (Aleksandrovsky park). It’s very close to the city centre and surrounds Музей Артиллерии (Muzei Artlerii) in front of Петропавловская крепость (Petropavlovskaya Krepost).

Aleksandrovsky park is a relaxing and beautiful place for a walk or a picnic during these fist days of spring in Saint Petersburg. This is much more than a regular public park, it’s a place of recreation and entertainment. From June 15, 2011 this location hosts the St. Petersburg miniature sculpture park «МИНИ-Санкт-Петербург». Here it’s possible to see the small replicas of St. Petersburg most popular landmarks as Alexander’s Column, the Hermitage, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Church on the Spilled Blood, designed by the local artist Александр Таратынов (Alexander Taratynov).

In Aleksandrovsky park you can also find the sculptures «Святой Апостол Петр» (Svyatoy Apostol Pyotr) that so enigmatically symbolizes the city and «Зодчие» (Zodchie, architects), which portrays the famous architects who built St. Petersburg. In addition to this two sculptures created in 2011 there’s the monument «Стерегущий» (Steregushchiy), established in memory of the Russo- Japanese war and erected in 1911.

Besides, the park holds Ленинградский зоопарк(Leningradsky Zoopark), «Балтийский дом» (Baltic House Theater-Festival), «Мюзик-Холл» (Saint Petersburg Music Hall), the metro station «Горьковская» (Gorkhovaya) and Санкт-Петербургский планетарий (Sankt-Peterbursky planetariy).

Aleksandrovsky park is wonderful and alluring place where people usually come to enjoy nature, have a good time with their friends and family and refresh themselves at cafes and restaurants. Because of its many attractions and the metro station it’s a really lively and cultural place and especially in summer a lot of events and entertaining activities for kids and adults take place in the park.
