Farewell Fredrik

Farewell Fredrik
25 September 2017

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I’m Fredrik, I’m 26 years old, from Norway. I study Global Communications and International Journalism at the State University of St. Petersburg and in Berlin. I’ve been living in St. Petersburg for the past six months.

Why did you come to Russia and what inspired you to study Russian in the first place?

Although my courses at University here in Russia are held in English, I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn the language or at least try to learn it. I’ve always liked the language. It’s a difficult language to learn but I like the challenge. Also, since I’m staying here for a whole year, it would be a waste not to try it. As for coming to Russia, I’ve always wanted to visit Russia and really liked the idea of studying here for a semester or two.

Are you happy with your experience of learning Russian and working in St. Petersburg? Why?

Yes! Very happy! It’s been a really great experience. The teachers here are so good, they really help and support you. I think my Russian improved quite quickly in the first couple of weeks. The internship has been great as well. I’ve learned a lot and everybody I’ve worked with was nice and helpful. Generally, you get to meet so many different people from all over the world, which is pretty cool!

Do you have any recommendations for future interns?

Just be yourself and enjoy your time here.

What is your favorite experience in St. Petersburg?

Three times a week I play football for a team here in St. Petersburg, an experience that I’ve really enjoyed so far. It’s fun and a good balance to my studies and work. Of course, I also couldn’t forget my experience at the Russian baths. Everybody should visit a traditional Russian sauna at least once, especially during the winter months.

So now that you have finished your internship at Liden & Denz, what are your plans now?

I’m going back to University to finish my Masters Degree.

Would you come back?

Yes! Definitely!
