Greetings From The New Girl In Town!

Hello there! Привет! My name is Ellie and I’m the newest arrival at Liden and Denz Moscow! I am from the UK and am a recently graduated student with a degree in Russian and French. I studied French at school and it was always my favourite subject… until I started learning Russian at university that is! I chose Russian to accompany French during my higher studies for various reasons. Firstly, I had studied Russian history at school and learning the language seemed like a gateway into discovering more about this formidable country. Secondly, Russian is a true linguistic challenge; it is completely different to any language I have learnt before. Little did I know back then that Russian and Russia would become my obsession!

This isn’t my first trip to Moscow. I have been here for holidays, stopovers en route to other cities and have even worked as an English teacher in children’s summer camps in the region. This is, however, my first longer stint in the capital. I studied in Irkutsk during my university year abroad and fell in love with the city and the Siberian wilderness that surrounds it. Although this autumn will be an entirely different experience of Russia for me, I am so excited to be in the centre of all the action and to be so close to good Russian friends I have made over the years, most of whom are based in the Moscow region. Let’s see how I find three months in this huge metropolis, studying and working as an intern. After all, it’s one thing coming here for holidays and to sightsee, but to live and breathe a city – well that is something entirely different! I look forward to diving in and embracing the experience, and I hope you can come along with me on the blog as I see what makes Moscow tick and why it makes me tick too.
