Hello from Oli, a new intern from Hong Kong and England!
21 January 2019

Привет! My name is Oli and I am a new intern at Liden & Denz, St Petersburg! I am currently a 3rd Year Russian and German student at University College, London and I have been studying Russian for nearly seven years now, both at school and university.

Originally from Hong Kong, I am very fortunate to experience the world through foreign languages. My native tongues are English and Cantonese, and I have an active knowledge of Mandarin, Russian and German as well.

I feel that learning Russian gives you a broader view of the world, and really takes you out of your comfort zone. If you enjoy finding new horizons and experiencing an entirely unique culture, then Russia is definitely for you! In my opinion, in order to truly master Russian, the best thing to do is to live there and be surrounded by an extremely rich tapestry of history whilst being consumed by the language.

I decided to study Russian for it’s complex history and enthralling literature, as well as wanting to engage in a culture that is so entirely different to anything I have ever experienced before. I honestly can’t get enough of it. I continued Russian at university and my course brought me to the Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg (Вышая школа экономики) earlier this year, where I stayed for four months as part of my Year Abroad. I adored my time in the “Venice of the North” so much that I decided to carry on studying in St. Petersburg with Liden & Denz, and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity! My travels have taken me to several other Russian cities, including Yekaterinburg and Moscow, where I attended Moscow State University (МГУ) for a summer. Russia has taught me so many new things including how to survive in ridiculously cold weather!

In my spare time, I love reading and I play football and ice hockey, which, luckily enough, are two of Russia’s national sports! I am also mad about travelling, seeing and experiencing new things, as well as being a movie fanatic and a creative writer.

I am very excited to continue my journey in St. Petersburg with Liden & Denz, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with all of you over the next month! Watch this space…!
