That time when we had some typical Russian food at a Russian tavern!
07 October 2016

When visiting a new country, of course we want to try its national cuisine. Saint Petersburg offers lots of nice places to get delicious Russian food. Yesterday, my friends and me visited a real Russian tavern and it was simply awesome!

Location

Since I am here I really wanted to go to a Russian restaurant. Yesterday evening I finally did it! Together with my friends I went to a Russian tavern called Cenowal (Сеновал). It is situated on the Nekrasova Ulitsa, near Nevsky Prospekt. Right after we went in, we were really amazed by the absolutely cosy and warm atmosphere. The interior is countrified and simple, but very comfortable. The tavern was very well-visited, but still, we got a nice place.

Menu

The menu is very comprehensive, they do not only offer Russian food! You also get pasta, pizza and sushi there. I think that’s a really funny thing in Saint Petersburg. Almost every restaurant offer Italian, Russian cuisine and sushi! But after all, surely I decided to eat real Russian food. I chose a Borsch Soup (Борщ) as a main dish and Blinies (блини) with chocolate as a dessert – it was simply amazing! A friend of mine who went with us, ate a Schaschlik meat skewer (Шашлык). That’s also a famous Russian dish and it was very tasty.

Prices

The prices of the dishes are reasonable and rather low. I think, amongst others, that’s a reason for the higher amount of young people there. This tavern is probably very popular among students!

I guess this Russian tavern is suitable for every age group. It offers an absolutely cozy and friendly atmosphere and delicious food for a very good price. A recommendable place to get some good food!
