Riga City Festival this weekend!
Riga’s City Festival is the main annual event in Latvia! This year it takes place from 15th to 17th August. It consists of musical, artistic, theatrical and dance performances, as well as sports events and attractions. This festival gives you a wonderful impression of Riga’s city!
It will begin on Friday evening with a special concert performed by a professional symphony band RIGA and the composer Raimonds Pauls in Vermane Garden. Saturday a theatre performance by schoolchildren, percussionists and guests from Taiwan and the Netherlands will take place. On the November 11 Embankment you can enjoy shows of retro cars and motorcycles and in the afternoon the air will be filled with giant soap bubbles created by magicians. In the evening there will be a musical performance for all tastes. The highlight is a group of acrobats from Australia who call themselves the “Strange Fruits”. They will perform in the sky above your heads! On Dome Square you can find a market and street musicians who will perform ancient music at Saint Peter’s Church and in the Dome Garden.
The festival can also be enjoyed in Kalnciema Street, Imanta, Kengarags and Ziemelblazma. Additionally, you can enjoy the Riga Port Festival including the 24-hour basketball match, a paddle-boat contest and performances by many street musicians. On Saturday evening you will see gracious flowers of fire lighting up at the sky!
On Sunday it is a family day! There will be creative workshops where you can follow the adventures of Spriditis, a beloved children’s character, and listen to a musical performance by Riga’s schoolchildren.
