White Night in Riga
Last weekend, Riga came alive during the 19th edition of the Baltā Nakts (White Night), a cultural forum that unfolded across the city on the night between September 7th and 8th.
This year’s White Night featured 30 free events scattered throughout Riga’s diverse neighborhoods, from the historic centre and Old Riga to Jugla, Teika, and Imanta. Even the iconic 1st tram line was turned into a dynamic performance space, blending a roving rave with captivating artistic experiences.
One of the standout events was the Sound Forest music festival, renowned for its experimental electronic sounds, while the Riga Circus was brought to life with a stunning light installation that reimagined the historic venue through contemporary art. Jugla Lake hosted an interactive performance exploring the delicate balance between nature and urban living, and the Survival Kit contemporary art festival challenged attendees with thought-provoking installations spread across the city.
Vibrant locations like Vidzeme Market and Tallinas Street Quarter were transformed into stages for performances, exhibitions, and installations, turning Riga into a sprawling open-air gallery.
With the theme of exploring the unknown, this year’s White Night invited participants to see their city through fresh, artistic lenses, delivering an unforgettable cultural experience that celebrated creativity in all its forms.
If you missed this year’s White Night, make sure to mark your calendar for next year and don’t miss the chance to discover Riga’s creative pulse in the heart of the night.
