Shesh Besh – Azerbaijani cuisine in Moscow

Shesh Besh – Azerbaijani cuisine in Moscow
09 August 2016

Looking to try a different type of cuisine in Moscow? Why not try Azerbaijani?

Shesh Besh is a medium priced Azerbaijani restaurant located less than a 5 minute walk from Novokuznetskaya metro station.

Inside, the restaurant is themed like a traditional building in the caucuses, with imitation stone walls, wooden archways and shisha pipes.

There are a wide variety of dishes available on the menu. I would advise you to try one of the types of kebab (Шашлык). This is similar to kebab meat found in other cuisine from Turkey and the Caucuses. The meats available are chicken, lamb, mutton, pork and various kinds of fish. Included in the dish are: the meat, onions, a sauce, and a thin pancake type wrap. There are also sides that you can purchase separately, although the main dishes themselves are pretty filling!

As for drinks, all the usual soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are available. I would also recommend the pitchers of lemonade, priced at 460 roubles and great for sharing between 2-3 people.

The dessert selections are much smaller than for the mains. Furthermore, they break from the Azerbaijani theme, offering ice cream and Tiramisu, a dessert not commonly believed to have its origins in Azerbaijan, .

Suitability for vegetarians

I should mention one small caveat. Although there is plenty of choice for carnivorous diners, the choice for vegetarians and vegans is extremely limited. While For meat eaters this is a great place to eat; for vegetarians, I would advise you to go elsewhere.  Another intern Megan reviewed a popular vegan restaurant Fresh which may be a more suitable option.

You can find a copy of the menu in Russian (with some English translations) here

The restaurant accepts payment by debit/credit card.

Address: Pyatnitskaya St., 24Moscow 115035, Russia. Open 12:00pm-12:00am every day excluding Tuesdays.

Lawrence Toye, currently studying at Liden & Denz Moscow

Привет Everyone! My name is Lawrence, I’m 21, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK, and I’m pleased to say I’m the new social media intern at Liden&Denz Moscow for the next 5 weeks. This is only my first day in Moscow, so I still have so much to see and take in! I love learning languages and spent last year living in the Middle East and studying Arabic. When I started studying at politics and economics at university last September, I couldn’t resist doing a language course alongside. Even though I could’ve probably picked an easier language, I felt Russian would be the most rewarding. I was right! Despite the frequently confusing grammar, in particular the cases, I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I’ve finished university for the summer, I decided to come here to to Liden&Denz to improve my Russian, and learn more about Russian culture. This is only my first full day in Russia, and I’m really excited to write about my thoughts, insights, and experiences of Moscow and learning Russian.
