The White Nights in Petersburg

The White Nights in Petersburg
14 April 2014

The white nights will soon be arriving and St Petersburg will soon transform itself into the most romantic place on earth. From the end of June to the beginning / middle of July, the sun only partially sets for five hours when its casts a warm glow across the domes of the St Petersburg’s churches, illuminating the skyline of the northern capital.

During this time make sure you don’t miss the White Nights Festival centred around Nevsky Prospekt. See Petersburg’s grandiose bridges open and enjoy the spectacular firework display.

There is nowhere more impressive than Petersburg to enjoy the lights but for those wishing to venture further afield there are also incredible celebrations in Kronstadt and Peterhof, as well as towns further north where the white nights last even longer.

The nights have served as an inspiration for many Russian writers. During your time at Liden & Denz why not try Dostoevsky’s White Nights (Белые Ночи), a classic of the Russian literary canon.
