Wonderful Peter, До Bстречи!
It seems only yesterday I awoke from my slumber at 2am to make the six hour journey to arrive in wonderful Peter, and study at Liden & Denz. After two months studying and interning in this stunning city, it is time for me to bid a fond farewell to the teachers and staff at Liden & Denz who have made my time in St. Petersburg so worthwhile. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, время летит (time flies) in wonderful Peter!
For my first ever visit to Russia two years ago, I came to St. Petersburg for three weeks with very little Russian and completely confounded by all things unknown. Returning to St. Petersburg, I have been less confused by the day-to-day use of Russian, thankfully not muddling marshrutki (mini-buses) with matryeshki (Russian dolls) and thinking “How on earth am I supposed to get to the “Church on Spilled Blood” by Russian doll?!?” Yet St. Petersburg is just as awe-inspiring as it was for me two years ago and I doubt this city will ever cease to have that effect on me. What I love about St. Petersburg is that it has such a rich history, yet the city exudes a contemporary art vibe. In St. Petersburg you can spend the morning strolling around the Hermitage discovering art from Da Vinci to Picasso, and the afternoon seeing any one of the numerous modern art projects.
I am very grateful to have spent my time here studying and interning at Liden & Denz and I wish I had known about this school earlier. I would like to thank the teachers who have made studying here so engaging and who have been patient with me when I struggle to remember which preposition is needed with the verb I am using! I would also like to thank the school for the opportunity to intern here as I have thoroughly enjoyed writing about all the weird and wonderful things Russia has to offer. I especially enjoyed the excuse to eat at restaurants for the sake of the blog!
Summer has come and passed and now it’s time for me to put on my overcoat, (fortunately I didn’t suffer Akakii Akakievich’s fate during my stay), and return to a grey world of dissertations, finals and rain in England. I fully intend to come back to the Liden & Denz school at some point in the future, but for now it’s time for me to say goodbye, до встречи!
