Coloured Bridges of St. Petersburg
There are an impressive 342 bridges spanning across the many canals in St. Petersburg. You can look out for the four Coloured Bridges (Цветные Мосты) that cross the Moika River (Река Мойка) while enjoying a relaxing stroll through the city. A pleasant evening walk begins in front of St Isaac’s Cathedral (Исаакиевский собор), as you follow the canal eastwards towards the Field of Mars (Марсово Поле) and pass by these bridges along the way.
Linking St. Isaac’s Cathedral with Voznesensky Prospekt and Antonenko Pereulok, you will see the Blue Bridge (Синий мост). This is the widest in St. Petersburg with a width of 97 metres. Carry on up the canal and the next sight you will come to is the distinctive Red Bridge (Красный мост), connecting both sides of Gorokhovaya Ulitsa. Standing here, you get a lovely view of Alexander Gardens and the Admiralty.
Around the river bend you will come to the Green Bridge (Зелёный мост), now renamed Police Bridge. This was the first bridge to be built across the Moika river in 1717 and crosses the heart of St. Petersburg, Nevsky Prospekt. The last stop on the tour of the coloured bridges takes us to the Yellow Bridge (Жёлтый мост). Although the bridge is no longer yellow and has been renamed Pevchesky Bridge, it is historically linked to the coloured set. The yellow bridge leads onto Palace Square (Дворцовая площадь)
