Dumskaya Ulitsa, Where The City Comes Alive At Night

23 August 2013

Unassuming by day, you can quietly pass through the small street tucked down the side of Gostiny Dvor (Гостиный Двор). But after dark, and especially on the weekend, Dumskaya Ulitsa (Думская Улица) becomes the centre of grotty and underground nightlife in St. Petersburg. Wander into one of the tiny bars under the 18th century arches and lose yourself to the city’s less glamorous side.

As this little party spot is popular with students and foreigners, you may bump into some friends from Liden & Denz if you decide to venture here. The great thing about a night out on Dumskaya is the close proximity of the bars to each other so you can move from one venue to the next with ease. Two of the best are Fidel (Фидел) and Dacha (Дача), where in summer and winter alike the party doesn’t stop until the last guest rolls out the door, usually sometime after 6am. Drinks are reasonably priced, plus there is no entrance fee. The DJs play an eclectic mix of all genres and generations of music.

Dumskaya Ulitsa is only two minutes walk away from Gostiny Dvor metro station so is a good central meeting point. To get a really authentic St. Petersburg nightlife experience we definitely suggest you stop by for a drink one night as you’re always bound to meet someone interesting here.
