Greetings from our new Belgian intern

Greetings from our new Belgian intern
08 October 2018

Здравствуйте! My name is Sarah and I recently finished my Law undergraduate in my home town, Brussels. I will have the pleasure to be an intern at the Liden & Denz Language Centre in St. Petersburg until the end of December which will be a real challenge as it is my first time in Russia and I do not yet speak the language.

I have always loved languages and had been wanting to learn Russian for a while as I am very much interested in the Russian culture and history as well as the travel opportunities this language provides and – let’s be honest – because Russian is simply beautiful to listen to! I therefore took the decision to take a full year off before starting my master’s degree to finally jump right in to it and … here I am!

My first few days in St. Petersburg have been wonderful. The city is not only beautiful but mostly full of life, culture and history. I got lost a few times already, took the metro for the first time (beware it’s deep and steep!), went grocery shopping (which counts as an adventure when you cannot yet read the alphabet and therefore do not know what you’re purchasing), had my first classes at Liden & Denz and ordered my first coffee fully in Russian (and smiled so much over this achievement that the waitress was confused).

I am very much looking forward to my time in this wonderful city and at the opportunity to write and research more about the Russian culture. As I have a very bad sense of orientation and tend to get lost quite a bit, I will mostly cover unconventional and local places that I will have stumbled upon. My main interests being food (but beware I’m a terrible cook), art and history, I will also cover them as much as I can in my upcoming posts along with what I consider to be the gems of the Russian culture.

So, without further do: if you are interested in following my journey at Liden & Denz, sit back, relax and look out for my blogposts in the coming three months.
