Nightlife and Laundry at Stirka

07 August 2013

Whilst living in a student hostel on Kazanskaya Ulitsa (Казанская улица) with no washing machine, a friend recommended that I try out Stirka 40 (Стирка 40), the laundrette just down the same street at no.26. This however is no ordinary establishment because Stirka is also a bar. What began as a graduation project by a Berlin-based artist in 2004, the cosy basement has become a favourite among students and creative types in St. Petersburg. During the day you can do all your washing there while relaxing in the bar with a free cup of tea or coffee. At night-time tumble dryers are swapped for DJ decks as this popular little place gets very crowded. We recommend getting there early to secure a table. As well as a good drinks menu, small snacks are also served. So if you have a hectic modern lifestyle, why not combine domestic duties with your social life at Stirka?
