Pedal Boating in Gorky Park
There are a seemingly endless number of activities available in Gorky Park. Amongst the cyclists and people on roller-blades, it is hard to do everything the park offers. However, one summer activity that I would highly recommend if you’re in the park with a group, is Pedal boating (Pedalo).
A pedal boat is a boat that moves by the passengers pedalling. It is particularly nice when the weather is hot as you and your passengers can sit and enjoy the sun whilst also feeling a cool breeze from the water. If you can get a group of 4-8 people, why not hire two boats and race them? If you pedal fast enough for long enough it can be a great workout for your legs. At the very least, it’s chance to work off the calories from the ice cream you’ll most likely buy.
The moveable rudder makes the boat easy to steer, so there’s no need to worry about crashing into the bank, or needing to be rescued! Still, make sure someone is good at docking the boat back on the bank. I think I need some more practice. The lake is also inhabited by a flock of ducks, and many ducklings. They often come up close to the boat, so make sure to watch out for them too: they can prove to be a difficult obstacle.
Prices and operating times
Hiring a four person pedal boat costs 400 roubles per hour. There is also a deposit to pay of 500 roubles, which is completely refunded provided you don’t sink the boat. The boats don’t operate in the winter months. Life jackets are given to everyone, so even if you can’t swim you can still take part.
