Russia Ice Hockey World Champions!

Russia Ice Hockey World Champions!
27 May 2014

Not too long ago Russia faced Finland in the quarter finals of “their” tournament, the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. It is not a secrete that when it comes to Ice Hockey all other gold medals to win lose their brightness. That one gold medal which is handed out for winning the Ice Hockey competition seems for to ominously shine brighter than all the others – and yet the “Sbornaya” lost that game to the “Suomi”. Out in the quarter finals – a bitter pill to swallow for all Russians.

But only a few months later they should get their re-match. This time it’s the final of the World Championship in Minsk. The chance to make up (at least a little bit) for that painful defeat in Sochi – and what a great final it was!

First the “Sbornaya” took the lead, but later on the “Suomi” were ahead. But after Ovechkin, one of the biggest stars of the Russian squad, equalized and the other star player Malkin scored for the lead, the Russians were back on track. After those two great goals, the Finns were not able to reply. The Russians won the game with a final score of 5:2 and can call themselves Ice Hockey World Champions!

Looking back the Russians played a great tournament with a series of 10 wins of out 10 games! Here you can read how it all begun:
