Santa`s Fun Run

Santa`s Fun Run
28 November 2016

On December 11th the familiar sounds of Santa’s` “HO HO HO” will be heard in Riga’s old town when the Santa’s Fun Run is taking place. The charity run is organized by the Riga International Rotary Club. The event encourages and engages all members of the Latvian as well as international community to participate and contribute to a specific cause which changes every year. The event takes place for the ninth time already. The aim of this year’s charity run is to raise money to support children with movement disorders – “LET’S RUN, SO CHILDREN CAN WALK!”

The event is filled with positive emotions – energetic families and kids, several business teams, as well as tourists who join the run – all dressed in the costumes of Santa Claus. The only condition you have to fulfil is wearing some red, Santa-like clothes and to have a great time. The run starts at 11.30 at the Dome Square and tickets are already available. A Santa suit is already included in the ticket price (12 EUR/per person, free of charge for children up to 12 years), so no worries about finding the right costume.

Charity purpose

There are a lot of children in Latvia who have been affected by a serious illness or injury resulting in severe health problems. A rehabilitation helps them improving the situation and limits progress of the disease. Families that are raising children with movement disabilities dream of seeing their child standing up from the wheelchair and start walking. They are locked up in their bodies – their hands or legs do not obey. Rehabilitation can help these kids, but it must be continuous and regular. Most families cannot afford rehabilitation courses since the state funding for this purpose is insufficient. The goal of the charity run is to raise 10’000 EUR in order to provide assistance to 6 children covering 250 lessons on a a special robotic gait trainer that allows to train not only on a flat surface, but also mimic climbing stairs.

So if you find the time to join this event it would be a lot of fun for a good cause!
