Summer Events in Saint Petersburg!

Summer Events in Saint Petersburg!
10 June 2016

While the people in Moscow will be partying their faces off, it seems there is not that much on offer this summer in Saint Petersburg. It might have something to do with the unpredictability of the weather… For those of you who can’t make the time or the ticket prices, though, there are some (considerably more wholesome, let’s, ahem.. face it) activities in store over the coming months. I have selected a few for you here, that you may make the most of your time in the city this summer.

Holi Festival

Saturday June 11th , Sunday June 12th and Monday 13th
14:00 – 19:00
Kirovets Stadium (M: Narvskaya)
[FREE!]

Inspired by the Hindu festival of colors and of the sharing of love, but celebrated here when the weather is a bit more favorable (fingers crossed!): come dance, embrace and throw colored powder at each other in a celebration of life and all that is good in it! You will also get to enjoy the weird looks when you are riding back, multicolored, on the metro. All colors used should be water soluble but just to be sure, don’t wear your favorite clothes 😉

Geek Picnic

Saturday June 25th, Sunday 26th
12:00 – 22:00
[700 rubles] C.M. Kirova Park, Yelagin Island

A festival of cutting-edge science, technology and art, featuring special guest Mythbuster (Discovery Channel) Jamie Heinemann plus many other international showcases. Running for the past five years, the 2015 edition hosted a whopping 50,000 visitors, and this year promises to match it. Prepare to be dazzled by the state of the technology that surrounds us already, and of technology yet to come. Geeks of the world unite!

Red Sails 2016 (Aluye Parusa)

Saturday June 25th – 26th
22:00 – 04:00
Vasilyevsky Island and the central Neva area
[Free]

One of the most defining holidays of the city, the Red Sails Festival is dedicated to graduating students at the end of the semester (read more about the tradition and some tips from last year here). The stage on Vasilyevsky will host various celebrities from Russian TV and the local music scene, but the sailing of the ship and the fireworks are visible from all around the central Neva. It is a magical moment, and occurs on the shortest night of the year. Find a good spot to watch the fireworks!

Stereoleto

Saturday July 2nd, Sunday 3rd
Kirova Park, Yelagin Island
Tickets

The one dance music festival which will be held here in Saint Petersburg promises to be an excellent one! Sigur Ros, Crystal Castles, and many more will appear on stage over the course of two days. Book your ticket early!

Usad’ba Jazz 2016

Saturday July 30th
14:00

Even the Muscovites are coming to this one. James Brown, George Clinton of Parliament & Funkadelic, Maceo Parker, Nino Katamadze & Insight (Georgia) are just some of the big international names which will be gracing the two stages of one of the best jazz festivals in the country. Many of the big Russian names will be attending, of course, and guests will get the chance to listen to some of the freshest new styles of Russian jazz. The line-up is still to be announced, but promises to be full of surprises for jazz lovers.

Classical Music Concerts at the Botanical Garden

Sunday July 17th, Monday 18th
21:30 – 23:00
Botanical Garden – Ulitsa Professora Popova, 2 (M: Petrogradskaya)
[50 rubles]

Stroll through the gardens to the sound of Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Strauss played by the orchestra “A Tempo,” a collective of some of the most celebrated musicians from the world over.

Motofestival St.Petersburg Harley® Days 2016

August 11th – 14th 11:00 – 23:00
Ploshchad’ Ostrovsko (M: Nevsky Prospekt, Gostinyi Dvor)
[Free]

Four days and evenings of rumbling motors, spectacular classic pieces, rock & blues and biker culture! Last year’s event was attended by more than 2,5 thousand bikers from all over Europe. Vroom vroom!

That’s all from me – but there is much, much more on Russian resources, try snooping here, here and here, and have a great summer!
