The advantages of learning Russian online.
05 March 2021

When I started to learn Russian a little over a year ago, I thought the best way to get to know the language was by spending time in Russia. This is actually still true: it really helps to be surrounded by people that are all speaking that language that you want to learn.

However, like for so many of us, my 2020 did not go as I planned it. Luckily, Liden & Denz started to organize Russian classes online. Therefore, I was able to continue with learning the Russian language although I was in the Netherlands. Since I have had online Russian lessons for 1 year, I would like to share with you the advantages from taking Russian classes online.

  1. It is better than no classes at all!

As you might know from your own experience, an online and offline learning environment are not the same thing. However, it is a great alternative to leaning Russian in a classroom with other students, and better than no lessons at all. I even feel that sometimes the online classes were more productive than offline classes. The teacher can use screen sharing, write down words in the chat, or share interesting videos afterwards.

  1. You are able to form a group with people from all over the world.

Since I have been taking classes at Liden & Denz for over 1 year, I have had classes with people that were in Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, France and Spain and even with a student that was in Australia at the time! It also adds something interesting that people from all over the world, from different countries, are in the same digital room to learn Russian.

  1. The schedule is more flexible than offline.

Sometimes people are surprised by this fact: the time difference between Saint Petersburg and most of Europe is only 2 hours in winter (and 1 hour in summer!). One other important advantage of organizing online classes, is that the schedule can be more flexible. I have had classes adapt to whoever is participating, which is different when you have classes face-to-face.

I won’t go into detail, but as everyone can imagine, from time to time there are some technical difficulties, as I am sure you will all understand. However, I do believe that it is a great alternative and I’m very happy that Liden & Denz is providing the option of online classes. If you feel inspired: take a look here!
