Film-goers on the Roof!

Film-goers on the Roof!
10 September 2014

You have a dilemma – you have been working hard in lessons all morning, and now you are trying to decide how best to spend your evening. You’ve exhausted all of the usual options and are searching for something a little more unusual.

On a rooftop in Riga, there is something particularly special happening. For a short period each year, the organisers, ‘Kino Pagalms’ (The Cinema Courtyard) choose an interesting location, and provide filmgoers with a unique, open-air cinema experience. An 11 metre, high definition inflatable screen and wireless headphones ensure a perfect viewing experience while you lounge in your luxury beach chair.

This year, ‘Kino Pagalms’ has found its home on the roof terrace of the ‘Galleria Riga’ shopping centre. ‘Makonis’ (a favourite restaurant amongst locals), manage the roof bar and offer freshly prepared ‘film-food’ such as burgers, salads and even popcorn! The terrace is open from 12:00 every day, so arrive early in the evening, grab a cocktail (or beer!) from the abundantly-stocked bar, and take in the stunning cityscape.

The programme includes titles that will impress even the most discerning film-enthusiasts, with themes ranging from “Scandalous Cinema” to “Fresh Releases” (a great chance to see some 2014 film festival highlights). Films are screened in their original language with Latvian or Russian subtitles, so whether you feel like getting a little language practice, or you’d simply like to unwind and watch your favourite cult classic, there are plenty of options.

The bad news is that ‘Kino Pagalms’ will only remain open until the end of September, but there are still plenty of films on the schedule to spark your interest. Take a look here and book you tickets for a superb evening of movies, drinks and great company:
