My Favourite Pubs, Bars and Clubs in Riga
Pubs and bars in Riga’s Old Town
The Old Town is the easiest place to start. Many pubs and bars are close together, so you can simply walk around and see what looks good.
The area around Grēcinieku iela is especially lively. I have also heard plenty of Russian there, which can create small opportunities to practise outside the classroom.
Funny Fox: karaoke in the Old Town
Funny Fox is one of my favourite options for a casual evening. It is a sports and karaoke pub on Grēcinieku iela. The atmosphere is lively, and it is a fun place to visit with friends.
Karaoke usually starts later in the evening. So, if you enjoy singing, I would definitely recommend checking it out.
Sherlock Holmes: a themed pub nearby
Close to Funny Fox, you can also find the Sherlock Holmes Restaurant and Pub. The British-style interior and themed details make it a fun place for a drink or something to eat.
I especially like this corner of the Old Town because several bars are located close together. You can start in one place and then easily move somewhere else.
Riga Black Magic: a retro experience
Riga Black Magic is one of the most unusual bars I have visited in the city. The dark interior, antique-style furniture and mysterious atmosphere make it feel like you have stepped into another time.
You can try Black Balsam cocktails, warm drinks, chocolates and desserts. Even if you only stay for one drink, I think it is worth visiting for the atmosphere alone.
My recommendations outside the Old Town
Some of my favourite places are outside the historic centre. They often feel more relaxed and less touristy.
Alus Muiža: cosy and perfect for beer
Alus Muiža has a warm, wooden interior and a large choice of beers. I would recommend it for a quieter evening when you want to sit, talk and try something different.
It is also close to Cielo, which I mentioned in my Italian food post, and the Georgian restaurant Tbilisi. This makes it a great place for a drink after dinner.
Tallinas kvartāls: drinks and events in an industrial setting
Tallinas kvartāls is one of the coolest nightlife areas I have found in Riga. It is set inside former industrial buildings and courtyards. Today, the area has bars, food and different events.
Angārs is one of the main venues. It often hosts DJs, concerts, karaoke and silent discos. I went to a silent disco there, and it was much more fun than I expected. Everyone wears headphones and chooses their own music channel. It looks strange at first, but the atmosphere is great!
GUST: something different outside the centre
GUST is another place I would recommend when you want to explore beyond the Old Town. It has a creative and slightly industrial atmosphere. For me, it feels very different from a traditional pub in the city centre. It is a nice option for a relaxed drink before moving somewhere livelier later.
Clubs to finish the night
If you still have energy after the bars, there are definitely a few options for a little boogie. Riga has many more clubs, but these are the ones I have tried and found especially fun.
Sinners
Sinners is a good option when you want a lively club in the Old Town with music, dancing and a busy atmosphere.
There is also a Sinners venue in Tallinas kvartāls, so it is worth checking which location and event suits you best.
Poseidons
Poseidons is another fun choice in the Old Town, especially if you want to keep dancing after visiting the nearby pubs and bars. It works well as a final stop because it is close to many other nightlife spots.
Why Riga Is Worth a Night Out
I would definitely recommend having at least one proper night out in Riga, especially at the weekend.
In summer, the city feels incredibly lively, with everyone sitting outside and enjoying the warm evening. You can start with one quiet beer, end up at karaoke and somehow finish the night dancing in a club!
That is part of the fun. Riga is easy to explore, relaxed and always has somewhere nearby to continue the evening.
