Привет from new intern Hanna!

Привет, St.Petersburg!

My name is Hanna and I will be in St. Petersburg for the next three months studying Russian and working as an intern at Liden and Denz.

I’ve been told that St. Petersburg is the “cultural Capital” of Russia so I am excited to explore my new city. Last semester, I was an exchange student at People’s Friendship University of Russia in Moscow  and I visited St. Petersburg for two days so I have already seen the biggest tourist attractions. But I still  look forward to exploring more, walking along the streets, visiting parks and practicing Russian wherever I go. I am also excited to experience this beautiful city in warmer wheather this time around.

Probably like almost every language learner, my reasons for studying Russian are a bit of a conglomeration of different reasons.  As an American growing up in Turkey, I’ve grown up with two languages – English and Turkish and I’ve always wanted to learn another language but  never had a good reason to choose one language over another. However, a year and a half ago I was accepted into a study-abroad program to Moscow and decided to start learning Russian. I also have a few close friends from Kazakhstan at my university in Ankara who have been an insparation and encouragement to me along the away. Of course, the fact that Russian is the 7th most widely spoken language in the world has also been a motivation for me to learn it.

I am studying English Language Teaching at university so I am also interested in the process of language learning and finding the most effecient ways to study as I continue being a language student myself at Liden and Denz. In my free time I hope to read about learning, education systems, theories on cross-cultural communication and how our brain changes as we learn languages this summer.

I look forward to telling you about my journey as a language learner and my explorations in my new city.

If you have been to St. Petersburg before, please tell me if you have any suggestions of places I should visit.
