The Newest Intern Arrives!

The Newest Intern Arrives!
15 July 2025

Привет всем! I’m Iona, a university student from the UK and the newest intern at Liden and Denz Riga. This is my first time in Latvia and my first time studying with Liden and Denz. I am very excited about both these things, and can’t wait to share what I learn!

Why Russian?

I started learning Russian at school, and loved it so much that I decided to continue it at university. I was first drawn to the Russian language because of the intriguing Cyrillic alphabet and the complex cases. Soon, I realised that this language was the key to understanding a rich culture and long history. I am now a fan of Russian-language literature, music, and film, and learning the language is the best way for me to explore these aspects of culture further.

Why Liden and Denz?

My time and Liden and Denz is a very exciting prospect. It is the perfect opportunity for me to maintain my existing Russian knowledge across my long summer vacation, and improve that knowledge even more. I am particularly excited to get to know my classmates, as Liden and Denz attracts students from all walks of life, from all parts of the world.

Why Riga?

I have never been to the Baltics, and these weeks in Riga is my chance to discover the region. I plan to explore Riga and the surrounding area, through its history, architecture, culture, and (most importantly) food and drink! I am looking forward to visiting as many of Riga’s museums, parks, and events, as possible during my stay.
